Lost-Wax Casting Process:

The ancient art of lost-wax casting is still the method by which bronze sculpture is created. Labor-intensive, the artist models a shape in clay, takes a mold, transfers the shape to wax, which , once invested with a light but strong material, will melt out and be replaced with molten bronze. Pew does most of her own foundry work which allows her better quality control. From gating(building channels for the molten metal to flow into the piece), to investing, burning out the wax, welding and patination(coloring of the bronze), she maintains a hands-on involvement.
